Aikido Decatur was founded by Joel Riggs, 2nd dan, in January 2009. Aikido Decatur is part of Division 3 of the California Aikido Association, an official member organization of the Aikikai Foundation led by Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu, grandson of the founder.

The space is shared with yoga and qi gong and other classes, and is a beautifully appointed large room with wooden floor and a peaceful appearance.

There's lots of convenient, free parking, and it has very easy access to drop off and pick up students as well.

Landmarks to help you find us

As you head on east on College Ave. from Commerce/Columbia, you will pass the Smith/Ace/True Value hardware store on your right. The next property you come to is a retail/office complex called East Decatur Station. We are in the extreme south east corner of this project. In the front of the building you will see Figo Pasta restaurant; if you turn into the first driveway (on the west side of this building), you will have to drive all the way around the back of the building in order to find us (we're right next to Duck's Cosmic Kitchen's little "out building." If instead of turning into the driveway you continue east on College Ave., then at the next city street (New Street) take a right just past the "All Souls Church" which is in the front of our building, facing the street. Go all the way around to the back of the east side of the building to find our front door. The first time you try to find us, it may be a little bit difficult. Keep searching, though, we're back here! We share space with the Decatur Healing Arts studio, so look for their signs in the grass near the road and on the side of the building near the back.
