Required material for each level includes all elements from previous levels.
Children begin training as 10th kyu (Jukyu) - White Belt
9th kyu (Kyukyu) - Yellow Belt - Minimum 25 days training as 10th kyu.
8th kyu (Hachikyu) - Orange Belt - 30 days as 9th kyu
7th kyu (Shichikyu) - Green Belt - 35 days as 8th kyu
6th kyu (Rokkyu) - Purple Belt - 40 days as 7th kyu
Adults begin training as 6th kyu (Rokkyu) - White Belt
Test material for 5th kyu and higher comes from the California Aikido Association.
5th kyu (Gokyu) - Red Belt (for children) - 50 days as 6th kyu
5th kyu (Gokyu) - White Belt (for adults) - 50 days as 6th kyu
4th kyu (Yonkyu) - Blue Belt - 60 days as 5th kyu
3rd kyu (Sankyu) - Blue Belt - 80 days as 4th kyu
2nd kyu (Nikkyu) - Brown Belt - 100 days as 3rd kyu
1st kyu (Ikkyu) - Brown Belt - 150 days as 2nd kyu
1st dan (Shodan) - Black Belt - 200 days as 1st kyu (minimum one year from ikkyu); must be 15 years old
2nd dan (Nidan) - 360 days as shodan (minimum two years)
3rd dan (Sandan) - 540 days as nidan (minimum three years)
4th dan (Yondan) - Higher ranks are awarded upon recommendation by senior instructor
5th dan (Godan) -
