Morihei Ueshiba is called "O Sensei" by his students and the larger aikido community. "O Sensei" means roughly "Great Teacher." He founded aikido after half a lifetime of mastering other martial arts and delving deeply into Japanese religious traditions. Out of these experiences, he took lethal fighting techniques and turned them into a comprehensive collection of movements that preserve the health and well-being of the attacker.

Rather than how to kill or maim an enemy, O Sensei taught how to CONNECT with - REDIRECT - and PROTECT an attacker.
